Business

Croydon’s transport links and enterprise-friendly environment have proved a powerful draw for businesses in the UK and abroad.  International businesses such as Nestle and Bank of America have made their bases here.  There are over 13,000 businesses in Croydon including, in the service centre, such big names as AIG, BT and pubic sector organisations.  There is a varied manufacturing side too - some high tech companies are based here.

The Croydon Enterprise programme is also doing much good work to help set up new businesses, and support their growth with free training, competitive development loans and a range of support that is tailored to the individual business’ need.  And in 2007 Croydon’s business-friendly environment so impressed the judges of Enterprising Britain that they rated the town London’s most enterprising place.

Another powerful force for business is Croydon Town Centre Business Improvement District (BID) which is investing in attracting shoppers and improving the retail environment with a range of activities and initiatives including an enhanced cleaning regime and a number of anti crime measures.

The BID represents approximately 580 companies working in partnership with key stakeholders including local businesses, Croydon Council and the Metropolitan Police.
