The Board of Governors at Croydon College has this week announced that Frances
Wadsworth has been appointed as the new Principal and Chief Executive of Croydon
College to succeed Mariane Cavalli.
Frances is currently Principal and CEO at East Surrey College, and has been for the
past six years. During this time she has successfully led the college through
significant quality improvement, leading to rising success rates and its current ‘Good’
with Outstanding aspects Ofsted status. In addition she has presided over a £62m
complete campus rebuild and will be leaving East Surrey College with outstanding
resources for its learners.
Commenting on her appointment Frances said: “I am looking forward to my new post
very much. I am proud of what has been achieved at East Surrey College for the
community and learners of the area, however the time is right for me to take on a
new challenge and I am delighted to be taking up this significant post.
“Croydon College is a large College which has a huge positive impact on its
community. The College is already known for the quality of its teaching and learning
and innovative practice. I am looking forward to working with the staff to build further
on the existing good practice and achieve the goal of Outstanding status for the
College.”
Frances has many successful years experience in lecturing and managing in the
Further Education sector. After graduating from University Frances worked initially in
retailing before determining on a career in education. Frances taught first in schools
before entering Further Education and has worked in a variety of colleges. She
broadened her experience by working in Washington DC, USA for the British Council
at the British Embassy. Frances is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute
and a Fellow of the RSA.
Frances has a number of National roles; she is member of the FE Performance and
Review Board, LSIS Council (Learning & Skills Improvement Service) and in addition
to serving on the AOSEC Board, is a governor of the Warwick School in Redhill.
Now in the top 10% of Colleges in the country for its success rates Croydon College
is one of the largest Colleges in London and is currently undergoing extensive
refurbishment and redevelopment with a landmark new extension to Fairfield building
due to open in Spring next year.
Frances Wadsworth’s start date is in the process of being confirmed - in the interim
period Sid Hughes, previously Principal at Newham Sixth Form College, will take
over the reins from Mariane Cavalli.
